** Cheers to our Grants Management 101 Class of 2022!
------------------------------------------------------------

This year’s GM101 ([link removed]) cohort completed their final session last week. Over the past five months and nine sessions, participants explored the fundamentals of grants management, the philanthropic sector, and equitable, effective grantmaking practices.

We’d like to extend our deepest thanks to this year's cohort advisors Jennifer Burran, Adriana Jiménez, Adin Miller, Ursula Stewart, and Patrick Taylor; to PEAK’s Dolores Estrada, Satonya Fair, and Lita Pardi for stepping in as advisors; to guest speakers Josh Abel, Dan Gaff, Amy Coates Madsen, and Jennifer Pedroni; and to our series sponsor, NGOsource.

** CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT
------------------------------------------------------------

** Building Relationships, Growing Networks, and Navigating Career Pathways with PEAK Chapters
------------------------------------------------------------

PEAK chapters have grown tremendously this year! During this time of growth, many chapters are expanding their programming and making space for more frequent and deeper peer connections. Now more than ever in PEAK’s history, members are able to tap into regional conversations on a wide range of topics and share resources through the abundant virtual opportunities offered by chapters.

After a year brimming with high-quality and meaningful programming, our chapters have much to celebrate. So if you haven’t already, be sure to check out the events page ([link removed]) for opportunities to join in on some end-of-year fun and give yourself one more chance to connect with a colleague.

Kudos to every PEAK chapter for leading the way!

** SOCIAL MEDIA ALERT
------------------------------------------------------------

** PEAK on Twitter
------------------------------------------------------------

PEAK Grantmaking is alarmed by the effects of Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. We are actively monitoring reports of harmful, hateful content and disinformation spreading on the platform and changes in policy and staffing that signal declines in the company’s commitment to upholding community standards, moderating content, and supporting accessibility.

Twitter has served as a valuable forum to connect the PEAK community, now with nearly 7,000 followers, and it provides a unique platform for real-time sharing around our convenings. We are nevertheless concerned about doing business with a company whose values don’t align with ours. For now, we will keep the PEAK Twitter profile live while we evaluate whether to continue on the platform. If you have concerns or questions, please reach out to Senior Communications Director Betsy Reid at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

As an alternative, we invite you to follow PEAK on LinkedIn ([link removed]) and engage with our community there.

** PEAK in Community
------------------------------------------------------------

Enjoy the latest news about our sector partnerships and how PEAK is advocating for more equitable grantmaking practices at conferences, convenings, and community conversations.

President and CEO Satonya Fair represented PEAK in many spaces over the last month. At the Council of Michigan Foundations 50th annual conference, Satonya presented alongside Integer’s Sandra Swirski and Exponent Philanthropy’s Paul Daugherty where they took a post-election, future-focused look at regulatory changes that will impact nonprofits and communities at the local, state, and federal levels. Satonya moderated a session at Independent Sector’s virtual Upswell conference with Candid’s Ann Mei Chang and MacArthur Foundation’s John Mohr, where they lifted up strategies to advance equity throughout the grantmaking lifecycle. She also presented for Blackbaud's 2022 learning series, focusing on PEAK’s Steward Responsively Principle ([link removed]) and how the sector can cultivate relationships that build trust which should help manage, rather than avoid, risk. Her last stop for 2022 was the Mission Investors Exchange
conference, which took deep dives into equity, climate and environmental justice, community resilience, and the future of impact investing.

Programs and Knowledge Director Lita Ugarte Pardi and Partnerships Director Davis Parchment coled a session about using data to assess a funder's grantmaking practices to Grantmakers for Western Pennsylvania and the PEAK Mideast chapter. The pair took attendees through exercises designed to examine their grantmaking processes in order to identify points where they can reduce the burden on applicants and ways to gather intel from applicants to improve their relationships.

For Philanthropy Northwest’s Philanthropy 101 learning series, Community Knowledge Manager Chantias Ford led the session on grantmaking fundamentals, sharing tools and techniques to identify bias and embed equitable grantmaking practices throughout the lifecycle, and helping participants identify their areas of influence to make change at their organizations.
