Dear John, This year, as Wisconsinites, we have experienced the devastation of record-breaking gun violence, yet the Wisconsin legislature has failed to enact lifesaving policies. However, there are some actions that the governor can -- and must -- take without legislative action. We can help. Governor Evers is shaping his executive budget right now for 2023-2025, and he is doing a listening session tour to hear what we, his constituents, want him to include in the budget. Evidence-based studies show that community-based violence prevention and interruption programs effectively reduce gun violence. Thus, we need Governor Evers to continue to include funding for these community-level programs in the biennial budget he drafts. Also, Governor Evers has task forces on many different vital issues, from climate change to caregiving to broadband to student debt. However, despite the tragic impact of gun violence, he does not have a gun violence prevention task force. Thus, Governor Evers must also create a task force on gun violence prevention. Governor's 2023-2025 Biennial Budget Listening Sessions Take advantage of this opportunity to engage directly in the budget process. Attend a listening session and call on Governor Evers to continue including funding for community-based violence intervention and interruption programs and to create a task force on gun violence prevention. These two actions can significantly reduce the heartbreak and devastation gun violence causes in our families and communities. Sincerely, Nick P.S.
