Hi Revealer,
Thanks to the support of people like you, we premiered our new independent documentary, “The Grab,” in September. Our feature-length film reveals how governments and corporations around the world are taking drastic measures to control access to food and water.
“The Grab” stems from nearly seven years of investigations on five continents. In 2016, when Reveal reporter Nathan Halverson started investigating China’s purchase of U.S. food giant Smithfield Foods, which controls 1 in 4 American pigs, he didn’t intend to produce a feature film. But the more he researched, the more a hidden pattern emerged: Such purchases weren’t isolated events, but rather strategic, systemic maneuvering by corporations and governments that has kicked off a global scramble for food and water in the 21st century.
Halverson and a team of Reveal reporters met with U.S. intelligence officers, spoke to Wall Street investors who manage some of the largest tracts of farmland in the world and sifted through tens of thousands of secret documents that illuminate the actions of the powerful.
The crew dealt with daily security concerns and at one point was even detained and deported by a government that didn’t want them reporting in its country.
But the team persevered, because this issue is life or death for millions of people around the world and is quickly becoming among the largest sources of global conflict.
We urgently need your help ([link removed]) if we’re going to continue to expose the biggest secrets held by governments and corporations.
Please donate ([link removed]) by Dec. 31 to help us reach our fundraising goal of $125,000. Your donations show your support for bringing narrative life to some of the most pressing stories of our time for the world’s largest platforms.
