Supreme Court Hear Biden’s Appeal for Student Loan Cancellation
Reuters: The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear President Joe Biden’s appeal of a judge’s ruling that found his plan to cancel billions of dollars in student debt unlawful, taking up the matter alongside another challenge to the policy that the justices are due to hear in the coming months. The justices will consider the Biden administration’s appeal of Texas-based U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman’s decision in a challenge backed by a conservative advocacy group, the second of two rulings by lower courts that have put Biden’s debt relief policy on ice ( Reuters). NBC: A major obstacle facing those challenging the program is that they have had to show legal standing to sue by illustrating how they are harmed by the program. If the Supreme Court were to conclude the states or individuals have standing and then reach the legal question of whether Biden had the authority to forgive the loans, the administration would most likely face an uphill battle, with the court’s conservative majority skeptical of broad assertions of federal power ( NBC).

Bari Weiss Delivers Next Round of “Twitter Files” Aimed at Removing President Trump
Fox News: The fifth installment of Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files” Monday revealed that staffers believed that tweets written by former President Donald Trump around the events of Jan. 6, 2021, had not actually violated its policies despite the company saying so at the time. Weiss cited “dissenters” within Twitter that did not want to ban Trump, including one who wrote, “Maybe because I am from China. I deeply understand how censorship can destroy the public conversation” ( Fox News). Bari Weiss: THREAD: THE TWITTER FILES PART FIVE. THE REMOVAL OF TRUMP FROM TWITTER ( Twitter). Spencer Brown: Despite the findings of Twitter employees, executive Vijaya Gadde looked for a workaround, an excuse, to ban Trump anyway by suggesting Trump’s not-in-violation tweets were actually “coded incitement” ( Townhall).

El Paso Region Sees 2,400 Migrant Crossings Over Weekend
CNN: More than 2,400 migrants crossed into the United States near El Paso, Texas, daily over the weekend, according to a senior Border Patrol official, marking what he described as a “major surge in illegal crossings” in the region. Hundreds of migrants have been staying across the border in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, raising concern among officials that many would try to cross when a Trump-era border policy ends in late December ( CNN). RNC Research: Biden Advisor Jake Sullivan: “We believe that that system is a system that does an effective job of being able to determine who is coming across the border.” Over 1 MILLION “gotaways” have illegally crossed the border and escaped into the U.S. since Biden took office ( Twitter).

Second Protestor Publicly Executed in Iran
HotAir: A second protester has been executed in Iran. Majidreza Rahnavard was executed in the city of Mashhad, northern Iran, on Monday. This comes after the first known protester execution was carried out last week. Rahnavard was publicly hanged from a construction crane. The execution was meant to send a message to protesters. He was charged with “waging war against God.” He was accused of fatally stabbing two members of Basij militia forces. The Basij are violently suppressing the protests. Human rights activists say his was a “sham” trial. They say he did not have a lawyer in court and he showed signs of being tortured. Iranian state media reported that Rahnavard confessed ( HotAir).

Democrats Wrestle with Term Limits for Committee Leadership Positions
Politico: While House Republicans have a six-year cap for their top members on committees, the chamber’s Democrats lack term limits — and as potential rising stars look to assert themselves in the next Congress, a generational schism is threatening to burst. The vehicle for the grumbling is a recent caucus rules change proposal by Rep. Bill Foster (D-Ill.) that would act as a form of term limits, requiring any committee chief to survive a secret-ballot vote in order to serve more than three terms… In fact, Democrats on both sides of the term-limits debate agree that Foster’s proposal is unlikely to pass a caucus-wide vote when it’s expected to come up this week ( Politico).

Biden Introduces Antisemitic Taskforce
Does this mean Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib will be chastised for repeated antisemitic comments? Associated Press: Amid a surge in hateful rhetoric and violence, President Joe Biden on Monday formed a new interagency group to develop a national strategy to combat antisemitism, the White House announced. The action comes at a time when anti-Jewish vitriol is being spread by prominent public figures. Led by the White House Domestic Policy and National Security councils, the new group will consult with community leaders, government officials, lawmakers and activists as it drafts a national strategy to tackle antisemitism and Holocaust denial ( Associated Press). Washington Times: Just days ago, President Biden appropriately declared that “our political leaders should be calling out and rejecting antisemitism wherever it hides.” Regrettably, the opportunities for the president to express himself on the subject of antisemitism abound ( Washington Times).

Buttigieg’s predecessor, Elaine Chao, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, faced criticism for using the same jets on seven occasions in 2017, costing taxpayers nearly $94,000. And Trump-appointed Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price was forced to resign after reportedly taking 26 private jet flights that same year, costing taxpayers about $1.2 million ( Fox News).

Study Reveals Use of Alcohol, Marijuana Increases in 21-50 Year Old’s
Daily Wire: A new study revealed the potential connection between the combined use of alcohol and marijuana and the laws concerning recreational marijuana use across the United States. The study showed that the combined use of alcohol and cannabis went up from 2008 to 2019 in people ages 21-50 years old. It dropped, however, among people ages 12 to 20 years old. It also didn’t increase for people 51 years of age and up ( Daily Wire). Hill: Researchers hypothesized the increase in simultaneous use seen among those aged 21 and older could be due to greater availability and opportunity to access cannabis though legal supply chains in states with the laws in place ( Hill).
