Get Ready for Governor Holcomb's
State of the State Looking Back on 2017
Good evening!
This Tuesday, Jan. 14, Governor Eric Holcomb will deliver his fourth State of the State Address, the final one of his first term.
Eric is Putting People First, and has been since day one of his administration. Of course, a leader doesn’t just give speeches -- a leader acts, and looking back on the previous three State of the State addresses he’s given, it’s quite clear that the governor says what he means and follows through with action.
In these days leading up to the 2020 State of the State, we wanted to take a look back on some of the goals the governor set in previous addresses and the results he’s achieved for Hoosiers. Let's start with 2017.
First State of the State Address: January 17, 2017:
Goal: “While we can take genuine pride in being ‘The Crossroads of America,’ roads need upkeep, and Hoosiers and Hoosier businesses require stronger connections than ever before.”
Result: The governor created Next Level Roads, Indiana’s long-term, fully-funded infrastructure program that will maintain and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges for a quarter century.
Goal: “(We must) continue to manage our finances with the discipline we’ve shown over the past 12 years… that’s why I support a balanced budget amendment!”
Goal: “I’m asking you to authorize funding to strengthen our connection to our…world… and incentivize more direct flights to better connection Hoosiers to… international markets.”
That’s just a sampling of the results Governor Holcomb promised and delivered from his first State of the State speech in 2017. You can read and view his first one at this link. Tomorrow, we'll take a look at Governor Holcomb’s 2018 State of the State address.
