Jack, Facebook will reportedly no longer fact check statements, photos, videos, or other content parroting Donald Trump's lies when posted on their platforms.

While Trump is still banned from Facebook—at least until January when the ban will be reconsidered—other pro-Trump accounts on the platform can post and circulate his nonsense, no matter how divorced from truth and reality, freely and without moderation.

Facebook banned Trump after his Big Lie incited a mob of white nationalists to attack our democracy in hopes of overturning the 2020 election results. By allowing his lies to freely circulate without moderation, they are demonstrating how little they learned over the last two years, and how unprepared they are to stop election deniers and disinformation.

It doesn't stop there. Not only did Twitter CEO Elon Musk reinstate Trump’s account, he also fired their content moderation chief. In the time since, the platform has descended into a welcome haven for Nazis, bigots, misogynists, and hate groups.

These platforms are powerful. We need rigorous content moderation policies and strong enforcement in order to stop the dregs of humanity from using them to undermine democracy and harm others.
