Team,

I fled the civil war in Somalia as a child and suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Now, the GOP is trying to shame me and erase my experience as a survivor.

The trauma of war is not only felt by the soldier on the battlefield. It is felt by the children huddled under beds as bombs go off outside their window.

I was one of those children, and in Congress, I will always speak out against war.

War trauma never leaves you. When I have these conversations around war, I find myself stricken with PTSD.

But I find peace knowing that I serve in Congress with great advocates for peace and people who have shown courage against war.

Engaging in armed conflict never creates stability -- it only costs lives and futures.

No matter what bad-faith attacks I face from the GOP, I won't stop speaking out for what's right. Let's stand for a more peaceful future together.

Chip in $5 or more to my re-election campaign to make sure that the GOP's propaganda campaign pushing for war doesn't drown out our message about peace: [link removed]

Thank you,

Ilhan Omar
