John,
Each year, gun violence claims more than 45,000 lives and it’s become the number one cause of death for children. Gun violence is a public health crisis – full stop. And one of the most important steps we can take toward tackling this complex epidemic is banning assault weapons.
Medical professionals working in emergency and trauma understand the lethality of these weapons intimately. They see first-hand what assault rifles do to their patients: They blow holes through their bodies and liquefy their organs. They cause damage that leaves children identifiable only by DNA kits, their blood-splattered clothes, or the shoes they wore as they ran in fear for their lives.
It's because assault rifles are weapons of war, designed to kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. These tools of destruction cannot remain on our streets – we have to change this and that’s why I’m reaching out today, John. Brady spearheaded an open letter to the Senate, signed by medical professionals from across the country and demanding that the U.S. Senate ban assault weapons before the end of the 2022 session – less than a month away.
We're asking grassroots activists to join our urgent call: Will you send a letter to your Senator and demand that they ban assault weapons before it's too late? >>
