In her moment of desperation, Brooke did what many moms do; she turned to Planned Parenthood. They prescribed her the abortion pill over the phone. They didn’t even have a doctor examine her or confirm the date of her pregnancy. This is dangerous because the pill can only be taken the first 10 weeks of pregnancy.
A few days later she received two pills in the mail. Planned Parenthood told her the first pill, "stops the pregnancy from growing" and the second pill "empties your uterus."
Brooke took the first pill and felt immediate panic and regret. Luckily, the effect of the pill can be reversed in the first 24 hours, so she began the process to spare her child. Brooke's child thankfully survived.
But Brooke’s life circumstances only got worse. Again, she wrote about her troubles:
“The bills are stacking up. And they just raised the cost of daycare – I’m barely making enough to cover it already. Even worse, I told my family I’m pregnant, and they’re threatening to kick us out of the house. I can’t be homeless again…I can’t do that to my kids. I feel like I’m drowning and don’t know what to do."
These circumstances caused Brooke to again feel that abortion was her only option. For the second time, Brooke searched online for an abortion and instead found the number for Human Coalition’s Contact Center. The voice on the other side was a nurse from the Telecare Women’s Clinic.
The nurse listened to Brooke and encouraged her. She shared with Brooke about the resources available to her through the Continuum of Care program – including help with childcare and housing. Brooke journaled:
“The nurse was so kind. She told me they’ll help me get back on my feet. I am grateful for the support, but still feel so overwhelmed.”
A few days later Brooke visited a Brick-and-Mortar Women’s Clinic for a free 3D ultrasound. She was blown away to see her child on the screen…she saw his face and even his smile.
As she watched her child move on the screen, she understood why taking the pill felt so wrong. The pill wasn’t merely going to stop her pregnancy and empty her uterus, as Planned Parenthood said. Rather, the pill was going to kill her precious son.
Brooke chose life that day – for the second time!
Her son, "Andrew" is now here and celebrating his first Christmas. She journaled her gratefulness:
“As I think about the many blessings of this past year, my friends at the clinic are at the top of the list... They feel like family.
They helped me find childcare and housing I could afford. They helped me find a better job. And they’ve been so encouraging every step of the way. Because of them, I get to celebrate Christmas with Andrew. I'm even taking him to see Santa tomorrow!
They also let us participate in the Holiday Connections Program. Volunteers brought food and gifts to our house. They also prayed for us. I was so overwhelmed with joy that I cried.
I’m grateful for how everyone has cared for me."
Isn’t it amazing to see what happens when you provide help and hope to women like Brooke?
Her journal entries are a fictional portrayal (based on her actual story) of the struggle moms facing unexpected pregnancies often experience. What’s especially devastating is that 76% of these moms would rather parent than have an abortion…but they see no other way forward.
That’s why your support is so critical. These moms overcome their challenges rather than be overwhelmed by them because of you. You give them the support they need to choose life and the support they need long after.
To reach more moms with lifesaving help, a group of generous donors has already provided a $750,000 Challenge Grant. That means every dollar raises up to $750,000 by December 31 will make TWICE the impact to serve more moms in need of help and hope when combined with the challenge grant.
Your gift right now is vital because Planned Parenthood is working harder than ever to expand abortion access after Roe v. Wade’s reversal. One way they are doing this is through the abortion pill. The pill now makes up more than 50% of all abortions.
This pill is not only deadly for children, but it's also dangerous for moms. A mom doesn't have to be seen by a doctor to obtain it. They receive a prescription over the phone. That means pregnancy complications are often undetected... putting moms at risk.
But by giving today, you will protect more moms from Planned Parenthood. You will make TWICE the lifesaving impact for moms like Brooke and children like Andrew.
Your gift can truly be the difference between a mom choosing life or aborting her child. Please give hope and help to more moms today…emboldening them to choose life and helping them thrive. www.HumanCoalition.org/End-of-Year
