Missouri NextGen Leader,
Advent greetings! We hope you have had an exciting and fruitful year in ministry.
2022 has been full of changes for Missouri Conference NextGen Ministries: We saw the departure of director Jeff Baker and executive assistant Dora Thackery and added Youth Specialist Rev. Angel Garcia to our staff in a full-time capacity. Many of you joined us for our first CIY (Christ in Youth) event at Central Missouri State University, and several local ministries pivoted with us when the camping landscape shifted again post-COVID-19. We’re thankful for the ways you’ve stayed in connection with us this year and faithfully served the local church.
We’re writing you because 2022 has a few more changes in store for us: Today, we welcome mailto:[email protected] Rev. Mona Candea to the Missouri Conference NextGen Ministries team as the new Associate Director of NextGen Ministries. Additionally, at the close of the calendar year, mailto:[email protected] Scott Burdin will move from his part-time role with the NextGen team to the Mission, Service and Justice Ministries staff full-time as Conference Disaster Response Coordinator. Make sure to reach out to him about service opportunities for your youth group! Packing flood buckets is a perfect Wednesday-night activity.
In his role as NextGen Supervisor, Burdin supervised camping registration and college-age ministries. With Rev. Candea coming on board, we anticipate the NextGen team, together with Director of Leadership Excellence, mailto:[email protected] Rev. Mark Statler, to assess the team’s organizational needs in light of the developing vision for the Conference’s Next Generation Ministries. In the interim, college-age ministry questions can be addressed to mailto:[email protected] Rev. Angel Garcia, Youth Specialist.
Looking ahead, we’re gearing up for another summer of camp and a new, United Methodist youth event!

UNITE Youth Event – July 2023 at CMU
Make plans to join Missouri Conference NextGen Ministries for UNITE, a summer youth conference hosted at Central Methodist University on July 17-21. Together we’ll INSPIRE students to unite through worship and mission, CREATE opportunities for students to use their voices, ENCOURAGE students to be Kin(g)dom workers in their local communities, and EQUIP a generation of young people to share the love of Jesus for the transformation of the world. Sports tournaments, service opportunities, eSports, swimming, workshops, worship and learning round out the full schedule planned for this Missouri United Methodist youth experience.
