Friend –
It’s hard to believe we are already in the throes of 2020! Looking back, I’d like to highlight a few of the many successes we’ve had for Minnesotans over the past twelve months! I look forward to working for
you throughout this upcoming year, and I will continue to represent you by resolving the issues that matter most. Thank you, 2019 - and cheers to 2020!
1.
12 Town Halls in 12 months: Speaking with
constituents and listening to their feedback is the most important part of my job, so it was my honor to host town halls in every county of the sixth district, as well as an
open forum for Minnesota’s seniors and a
bi-partisan agricultural session.
2.
Passed the Abby Honold Act: In April,
I helped with the successful passage of the Abby Honold Act as an amendment to the Violence Against Women Act. The Abby Honold Act ensures necessary steps are taken in the aftermath of a sexual assault so victims can begin recovering
and law enforcement is able to obtain the necessary information to prosecute these crimes.
3.
Opposed Impeachment as the House Democrats culminated their proceedings just a few weeks ago. I was grateful
for many
opportunities to speak up and advocate for the voters - not congress - to have complete control over whom they select as president.
4.
Supported Pro-Life Policies: In 2019, I continued my support for pro-life policies to protect our most vulnerable by signing an
Amicus Brief urging the Supreme Court to defend life, and by supporting a petition to force a vote on the Born Alive Survivors Protection Act.
5.
Protected Our 2nd Amendment Rights by introducing the Firearms Due
Process Protection Act and by cosponsoring the
Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and the Hearing Protection Act.
6.
Ensured Funding for the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network: Because farmers are a key part of our community and economy, I was happy to be able to help connect farmers, ranchers, and those living in rural communities to essential health care services.
7.
Repealed the Medical Device Tax,
the Health Insurance Tax, and the “Cadillac” Tax. Minnesotans don’t deserve higher medical costs, and Minnesota’s
medical device industry – a
key part of our overall state economy – cannot reach its true potential unless these barriers are removed.
8.
Thanked our Veterans with the WINGMAN Act: This act enabled congressional channels to better
serve veterans when assisting with VA and healthcare needs.
9.
Opposed Warrantless Surveillance by
voting against an extension of the FISA program and remained focused on protecting Minnesotans’ privacy and fourth amendment rights.
10.
Introduced the National Interchange/Intersection Safety Construction Program Act to redirect resources to the
most dangerous intersections and rail-grade crossings in the sixth congressional district.
11.
Voted to Preserve State Control over Elections and opposed federal funding of candidates, preventing the
Socialist Democrats from making sweeping changes to the way Minnesotans’ individual contributions can be used during elections.
12.
Renegotiated Trade with USMCA: In December, the House voted at last
to pass the
USMCA trade agreement. This agreement was a huge win for our Minnesota and our nation, adding 176,000 jobs and over $68 billion
to our nation’s economy!
Sincerely,
