Friend -
Sorry, it's been a minute. But no rest for the wicked.
After the November General, we were off to the races with Georgia. And the work continues with key races coming up in April in Wisconsin. Then there is the $1.6 billion war chest Leonard Leo got from Barre Seid. Seid is a key conservative donor who is bankrolling one of the key architects behind the anti-abortion Supreme Court members.
But let’s take a moment to smell the roses. No “Red Wave."
And though we did not win Mandela Barnes’ Senate race in Wisconsin, we did win the Governor’s race and held back most of the “Red Wave” in the state. Overall it was a successful midterm with historic wins for the Democrats. We congratulate candidates we supported in various ways such as Keith Ellison for Attorney General in Minnesota, Garlin Gilchrist for Lt. Governor in Michigan, Adrian Fontes for Secretary of State in Arizona, Lindsey Horvath for Supervisor in Los Angeles County, and Wes Moore for Governor in Maryland. We did fundraising, including NextUp! content for their own fundraising efforts, and in some cases, we supported grassroots operations as well.
You, too, were a big part of these victories. Without your help we could not have done all the work we did. A big thank you to Crooked Media, home of Pod Save America, for their continued support and work. We also thank People For the American Way for the collaboration on voter turnout work. In working with PFAW we did over 4 million texts primarily to infrequent Black male voters. We would also like to thank Quinn Delaney and Karla Jurvetson for their great generosity in supporting our work. Without their incredible support we would not have achieved all the great wins this Fall. It is also important to send thanks to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) for their support and Open Society Policy Center for all their great contributions to our work.
I don’t think there is much mystery in what just happened. The Dodd decision was a huge driver of turnout on the left. We saw huge participation by young voters and a turning away from the “election deniers” that were following the Trump playbook. There is a rise in a new conservative threat in Desantis and Seid/Leo but we can get back to that in the New Year.
For now we can be inspired by the fact that the American people were fed up and chose sanity, facts, and logic over fear, hate, and misinformation. Well done America, and thank you for all your support.
Congratulations Senator Rev. Raphael Warnock and here is to our continued work to make America a better reflection of a true democracy and diversity.
Thanks,
Andy
