Supporting Our Nation's Troops

On Thursday, the House voted overwhelmingly to pass this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This bipartisan bill helps fulfill Congress’s duty to provide for a strong national defense. Included in this year’s NDAA is a well-deserved pay raise for our troops and programs that help prepare our military to combat the growing threat of China. It also continues our efforts to defend our nation and allies from Russian aggression, and reverses President Biden’s reckless cuts to our national security. Every day, our servicemen and women put their lives on the line to protect and defend the freedoms we hold dear. I was proud to vote to support those who serve.

In a win for our troops, this year’s NDAA also removes President Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for service members, allowing them to serve our country without impeding on their freedoms. This is great news for our brave men and women.

A Secure Border Not A Presidential Priority

Since day one of the Biden administration, the President has implemented policies that have made the border crisis worse. This November alone, there were more than 70,000 known “gotaways” at the southern border—a historic record. Yet, when asked if he would make a visit to the border while in Arizona last week, President Biden said “there were more important things going on.” What is more important than the safety of the American people?

I am honored to have been selected by my colleagues in the House Republican Conference to serve as Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee for the 118th Congress. As Chairman, I will pursue innovative solutions to help rebuild our economy to its pre-pandemic heights. I also look forward to leading my colleagues in focusing our efforts on conducting appropriate and aggressive oversight of the Biden administration, as well as pursuing bipartisan legislation to put Americans back in control of their personal financial data. Congratulations to Yadkin County Sheriff Ricky Oliver on his retirement after forty-five years of faithful service to his community. In honor of his career and his commitment to ensuring the safety of Yadkin County, he was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is awarded in recognition of an individual's significant contributions to the State and their communities through exemplary service and exceptional accomplishments. Top seeds, undefeated teams highlight NCHSAA championship weekend

This was a very exciting weekend for Tenth District football. Three high schools in the area battled for state championships in their respective divisions. East Lincoln High School won their fourth state championship against Northern Nash, Reidsville High School lost in a tough game to East Duplin, and Mt. Airy High School won their first title since 2008 against Tarboro. Please join me in congratulating all of our Tenth District teams for an incredible season!
