Hi Friend,
We’ve heard from hundreds of people who have been affected by unexpected, exorbitant medical bills. For some, their entire lives were wrecked, causing them to file for bankruptcy. Others had trouble paying their mortgage, sending children to school, or putting food on the table.
Here are just a few stories we’ve heard:
“I recently had a heart procedure done. I requested an itemized bill. The total bill was over $158,000… There was an item of $485 for a single jar of cream to put on the wound. I had no idea how much this procedure would be. Talk about sticker shock!” - Katheryn H.
“Late in 2018 I was told I had 2 kidney stones on my right side. The one closest to the bladder was 13 MM. The second one right behind it was 5.6 mm. The first one was so large it was going to have to be removed with laser surgery. It was scheduled and I went to the hospital. I had no idea what the cost was to remove the 2 kidney stones. The hospital bill was around $26,000 and that didn't include the well over $1,000 I had to pay.” - James W.
It shouldn’t be this way. That’s why it is important that you speak up and share your story with the administration so we can get price transparency in health care now. ([link removed])
Three departments within the administration have proposed two new rules that would allow you to see healthcare prices before you receive care, as well as see your healthcare prices as part of your healthcare records. In order to get these rules enacted, they need to hear from you by 11:59 p.m. on January 29, 2020.
Share your story and submit comments on the administration’s price transparency rules today. ([link removed])
Thank you,
Heather Madden
*Note: These proposed rules are the latest of a series of rules being drafted to create price transparency in our healthcare system. All comments will be directly sent to the U.S. Departments of Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services. If you’d like to share your story with your Members of Congress, please go to www.usa.gov/elected-officials. For more information on the price transparency rules, click here ([link removed]) .
