Dear John,
This week, we celebrated the government's investment in the
Vancouver Jewish Community Centre, partied on the Hill, and clarified
why the IHRA definition of antisemitism is so important when it comes
to fighting antisemitism.

The CIJA Team
CIJA is delighted that the Jewish Community Centre of Greater
Vancouver has received $25 million from the Government of Canada in
support of its redevelopment!
The preservation of distinct cultural communities is an essential
thread in the fabric of Canada. As one of the most attended cultural,
community, and recreational centres in Vancouver, the Vancouver JCC
welcomes one of the most diverse demographics anywhere, a place where
so many families and individuals find activities, resources, and –
most importantly – a sense of belonging.
We join the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver in thanking the
Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage for
their support of this vision.
We were proud to celebrate Chanukah in Ottawa on Tuesday at
“Hanukkah on the Hill” — hosted by MPs Anthony Housefather and Ya'ara
Saks — with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Leader of the Official
Opposition of Canada Pierre Poilievre, Members of Parliament from all
parties, and Jewish community leaders.
"Jews defining hate against Jews isn’t controversial. Ignoring our
lived experience should be."
CIJA CEO Shimon Koffler Fogel explores the critical role played by
the IHRA definition of antisemitism — the consensus definition that
best reflects lived experiences of Jews today that is used by 37
countries across the world — in the ongoing fight against Jew-hatred
and the importance of Jewish voices being heard where antisemitism and
other hatred are addressed.
