The Respect for Marriage Act will enshrine same-sex into law, and as a result the federal government will never again stand in the way of marrying the person you love.
This is obviously a huge step forward in the fight for marriage equality. On a personal note, I dealt with homophobic attacks in my latest campaign – and even at times during my career as a meteorologist. I know all too well what it’s like to be subject to discrimination based on sexual orientation, and I know that these attacks sadly persist in our country.
But here’s the bottom line: Most Americans believe that same-sex couples should be able to marry, because they understand that love is love. Full stop.
In Congress, I will always be a proud defender of LGBTQ equality. I will fight to ensure this law is enforced in IL-17 and around the nation. Take a moment to join me in support of marriage equality. Add your name at the link below.
