Too often Congress doesn't seem to be working for the American people, and I knew things could be better. That's why these past four years, I proudly chaired the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, also known as the "Fix Congress Committee."

And I have some good news: The Fix Congress Committee passed 200 recommendations with bipartisan support under my leadership. You read that right — two HUNDRED bipartisan solutions!

Listen, there's no silver bullet to "fix" Congress. Instead, there's a whole bunch of stuff that we've got to do to modernize the institution to get it more focused on the needs of the American people.

I can't cover all 200 recommendations in one email (don't tempt me.) But, here's a small snapshot of what the committee accomplished:

➡️ Brought congressional technology into the 21st century to improve efficiency;
➡️ Streamlined constituent services to improve feedback methods and help members of Congress be more responsive and accountable to folks at home;
➡️ Bolstered staff capacity to ensure Congress can do its job and enact legislation;
➡️ Made it easier to facilitate bipartisan collaboration.

And that's just scratching the surface of the recommendations we made to make government work better. We led by example — these recommendations had the backing of a bipartisan majority.

I'm proud of what we've accomplished so far and am committed to fixing the broken political system and getting Congress back on track.
