Hi John,

Everyday, I am outraged by the violence and discrimination our global LGBTIQ community endures. This year alone, we’ve seen a dangerous backlash on the rise, including arrests, shutdowns of LGBTIQ organizations, and anti-LGBTIQ laws proposed in places like Afghanistan, China, Ghana, Honduras, Hungary, Indonesia, Iraq, Malaysia, Poland, Uganda, and in several U.S. states, among many others. In every corner of the world, the humanity of LGBTIQ people is under attack, and basic human rights are violated in horrific ways.

Today, on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, will you recommit to helping Outright fight LGBTIQ discrimination by making a donation today ([link removed]) ?

Despite serious backlash, I am encouraged about recent progress and the potential right now to radically accelerate equality for LGBTIQ people. In 2022, our communities celebrated historic wins. St. Lucia passed the first domestic violence law in the Caribbean that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Antigua and Barbuda and St. Kitts and Nevis struck down colonial-era sodomy laws criminalizing same-sex relations. Marriage equality became the law of the land in Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Slovenia, and Switzerland.

2022 has also been a landmark, pivotal year for Outright. Below are just a few examples of how your generosity has helped accelerate change for LGBTIQ people:
* Launched the Ukraine LGBTIQ Emergency Fund, distributing nearly $2M to 40 LGBTIQ organizations in Ukraine and nearby countries that are providing relief to queer people on the frontlines of the war.
* Welcomed the first cohort of 50 participants from 37 countries to LBQ Connect, our new global feminist program to support LBQ activism and communities in the Global South and East, for a comprehensive program of training, mentorship, research, advocacy, and financial support.
* Launched a new project with partner Mitini Nepal to support the rights of LGBTI elders in Nepal, who often face invisibility and discrimination.
* Published pioneering research about the anti-LGBTIQ backlash in Ghana, the persecution facing LGBTIQ people in Afghanistan under the Taliban, and the prevalence and impact of harmful conversion practices in Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.

For 32 years, Outright has worked relentlessly to protect and advance the human rights of LGBTIQ people everywhere. I hope you feel pride in the progress and impact we’ve made together!
