Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here Calling on House leaders to immediately pass the Susan Muffley Act to support New York workers This week, I led a letter to House Leadership requesting the House and Senate include the Susan Muffley Act in any end-of-year legislation. In 2009, more than 20,000 Delphi Salaried Retirees lost the full value of their retirement benefits in the aftermath of the General Motors bailout. Following the bankruptcy filing, the company surrendered its pension obligations to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation as part of its 2009 bankruptcy agreement. The Obama Administration then worked behind closed doors with union leaders to slash the pensions promised to the 20,000 non-unionized salaried staff. This was a total injustice to the hardworking salaried employees. The Susan Muffley Act works to correct the egregious wrong imposed upon the Delphi Salaried Retirees under the Obama Administration and should be considered in any potential year-end legislation. With only one month left in the 117th Congress, passing the Susan Muffley Act must be a high priority. After 13 years of working to fix this injustice, Delphi Salaried Retirees should not have to start over again next Congress. It is imperative that the Senate finally pass the Susan Muffley Act and that President Biden signs the bill into law. Alternatively, the provisions of the Susan Muffley Act could be included in a year-end package. Congress must not remain silent in the face of the thousands of retirees devastated by this injustice. My resolution recognizing the brave protestors in Iran unanimously passes the House Foreign Affairs Committee Alongside a bipartisan group of colleagues in Congress, my resolution commending the bravery, courage, and resolve of the women and men of Iran, who have been demonstrating in more than 80 cities against the Iranian regime's human rights abuses passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee unanimously this week. A similar measure also passed in the United States Senate. The Iranian regime’s ongoing violent crackdown on protestors exposes its egregious denial of fundamental human rights and dignity to its people. While the regime continues to protect the abusers of the Iranian people and hide their horrific actions from the world, the United States will continue to expose these human rights abusers and record their shameful acts for history. We must do everything in our power to hold the Iranian regime accountable for its malign actions against its people and our partners in the region. I'm honored to have led this initiative and look forward to seeing it on the House Floor. You can watch my full remarks here or at the link above. I joined FOX & Friends First to discuss Hunter Biden's laptop and more On Monday, I joined FOX & Friends First to discuss the recent developments with Hunter Biden's notorious laptop and Twitter's past censorship of the story. This is about more than just Hunter Biden, it is also about Joe Biden and his relationship with some of our greatest adversaries like Russia and China. In addition, if the American public would've known about the laptop contents, the outcome of the election could have been much different. I started the Election Integrity Caucus with the goal of restoring faith in our democratic process. To do this, Congress must, and under Republican leadership will, provide oversight and accountability into what happened with the suppression of Hunter Biden's laptop You can watch the full video of my interview here or at the link above. I'm committed to restoring transparency to government, which is why I explain every vote I take on the House floor. While we may not always agree, you will always know where I stand on the issues and how I vote in Congress. This Congress my office has already explained more than 420 votes. One piece of legislation we considered this week, the National Defense Authorization Act, is explained below. This bill is a win for our servicemembers and national security. To read more about my votes and see the full list with explanations of all the legislation considered this week, please click here. I voted “Yes” on the Senate amendment to H.R. 7776, the James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023. The National Defense Authorization Act is key to America’s security—that is exactly why Congress has now passed it for the 62nd consecutive year. The bill includes $45 billion more than was requested by President Biden, and it stops his harmful cuts to the construction of battle force ships as well as his proposed reductions to the procurement of new combat vehicles, missiles, and much more. The legislation contains important provisions to counter China and our adversaries across the globe. It also delivers for our servicemembers and their families by providing our troops with a much-needed 4.6% pay raise and includes $500 million for additional housing allowance to counter record inflation under President Biden. I am especially pleased that two of my amendments made it into the bill, including one requiring a report on the U.N. arms embargo and its effectiveness in constraining Iran's ability to supply, sell, or transfer arms or related material. The FY23 NDAA will provide for a strong, robust military and enhance America’s national security for decades to come. This bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 350-80. Meeting with Members of MACNY, the Manufacturers Association of Central New York Earlier this week, I had a meeting with the leaders and members of the Manufactures Association of Central New York (MACNY) to discuss the upcoming policy agenda for my newly launched Family Business Caucus as well as my legislation to support our great manufacturers here in NY22. Family Businesses, including small businesses and family farms, are the backbone of upstate New York's economy. As the longtime owner of my family's small manufacturing business, I know just how important having a seat at the table in Congress is for small business advocates. Always fighting for my constituents A constituent recently reached out to my office seeking assistance for her son, who was having struggles in the military and needed help. My office worked with the military to ensure the soldier was safe and that his issues were being addressed. We received the following message from the family: “Good morning, Claudia. As we are thick into the holiday season, I want to extend a heartfelt and tear-filled THANK YOU for being such a strong voice. Without your influence and heart, I fear for where we may have been. But so many don’t get that support in time. You have, and will continue to have our prayers. All the best to you and your family. God Bless.” No matter the issue, I will always be an advocate for my constituents! If you need help, please be sure to call us today. Need Help with a Federal Agency? Call us today.
