Earlier this year, a federal court blocked all new DACA applications. But for the moment, current DACA recipients are still protected from deportation and will be able to continue renewing.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program protects about 800,000 young undocumented immigrants from deportation. DACA recipients, known as Dreamers, were brought to the U.S. as children. For many, this country is the only home they’ve ever known.

The DACA program is still at risk in a right-wing federal court, so it’s critical that ALL current DACA recipients renew their status as soon as possible. While renewals are still being processed, we can help make sure that DACA recipients have the resources they need to renew their DACA status.

With the case now heading back to the same court that ruled against DACA before—a court packed with anti-immigrant, Republican-appointed judges—the entire DACA program may be at risk. There are no assurances that DACA recipients will be able to keep renewing their protected status for much longer.

We can’t keep relying on court decisions, which is why it’s urgent that the Senate vote to protect DACA. The House has already passed legislation supporting young people who came to the U.S. as children. Ultimately, Congress must provide pathways to citizenship to all undocumented people living in the U.S.

I will keep pushing for immigrant rights in Congress. But at the moment, we as individuals can help current DACA recipients stay in the country and stay with their families.
