Dear
John,

Today is World Human Rights Day, a day to celebrate the signing of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations almost 75
years ago. You can help make that remarkable declaration be more than
just words on a page.

By making a gift today, you can help bring training and resources to
Carter Center human rights defenders like Godfrey Ochieng Okumu in
Senegal (featured below). Results were immediate as Godfrey worked
with local communities.

It was like a revolution. Community members started coming out and
promoting their own rights, started talking about their
responsibilities.

After people understood human rights, we started seeing changes in
deeply rooted cultural practices, including female genital cutting and
child marriage. They started having dialogues around gender-based
violence against women and girls. Women started taking political
positions, because they now understood they have the right to vote and
the right to be elected. Things started changing.

STAND WITH US. ADVANCE HUMAN RIGHTS WITH A GIFT TODAY »

Your gift today will enable us to:

* Support a global network of Carter Center Human Rights Defenders
who rely on us for training and sometimes for publicity that can
buffer them from violent retaliation.

* Strengthen government protections for human rights in more than
25 countries.

* Continue groundbreaking efforts on behalf of women and girls,
whose human rights too often are violated as part of cultural
"tradition" or misunderstood religious
interpretations.

* Build democracy throughout the world with election monitoring,
peace negotiations, and improved access to information and
justice.

Human rights, along with the sense of justice and feeling of
self-worth they bring to people, are the "seeds of peace"
the world needs so badly. That's why The Center Carter fights
hard to advance these rights and why I'm so grateful for your
generous support of this vital work.

Thank you for donating in honor of Human Rights Day today.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Carter
Co-Founder and Trustee
