John, gun violence is a public health crisis, claiming the lives of more than 45,000 Americans each year. Medical professionals — like trauma surgeons, emergency medicine doctors, and pediatricians — bear witness to the impact of gun violence and trauma first-hand. They are on the front lines of our nation’s gun violence epidemic and often have to deliver the worst news a family will ever hear: your loved one isn’t coming home.
Tackling this complex public health crisis requires a number of solutions — and one of the most important is banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
That’s why, this week, we spearheaded an open letter with medical professionals from across the country demanding the U.S. Senate ban assault weapons before the end of the 2022 session.

Medical professionals understand the lethality of these weapons. They blow holes into their patients’ bodies. They liquefy organs. They cause damage that leaves children identifiable only by DNA kits, their blood-splattered clothes, or the shoes they wore as they ran in fear for their lives. We have to change this, John — and that’s why we’re reaching out today. We’re calling on medical professionals and grassroots activists like you to sign our letter demanding the U.S. Senate ban these weapons of war, once and for all. Will you join us? |
It will take all of us, especially the medical community, to end the public health crisis that is gun violence.
Thank you, Brady |

This week, gun violence prevention advocates made the short list for TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year — and we couldn’t agree more!
Over the past year, advocates like you helped us win the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major gun violence prevention legislation in three decades. You also helped us pass more than 35 gun safety laws in states across the country and maintain our gun safety majority in the U.S. Senate. So, thank you, John, for showing up each and every day to prevent gun violence and save lives. This work is never easy. But with you on our side, we will end this epidemic.

We were proud to announce that we will further our public health and physician work in 2023 through a new partnership with This Is Our Lane.
“The National Rifle Association (NRA) said ‘anti-gun doctors” should ‘stay in their lane.’ Well, this IS our lane. Brady is the oldest and boldest gun violence prevention organization, and This Is Our Lane looks forward to further deepening our partnership this upcoming year.”
