Friend, President Biden’s recent decision to greenlight more oil production in Venezuela instead of the United States is his latest slap in the face to domestic producers. His Administration’s war on American energy continues with disastrous implications for our economy and our national security. Americans are facing energy shortages, unprecedented utility bills, and high prices at the pump. Our Strategic Petroleum Reserves, meant for national emergencies, are at their lowest level since 1984. American producers, including Iowa’s biofuels producers, stand ready to meet demand, lower costs, and restore our energy independence. Yet President Biden continues to sideline domestic options in favor of foreign energy. In this case, President Biden has turned to Venezuela – boosting one of the worst socialist dictatorships in the world, with some of the dirtiest oil in the world. We do not need dirty oil from dictators when we have homegrown, clean energy options available right now. I will continue to advocate for an all-of-the-above energy strategy that maximizes our domestic energy production and expands the use of Iowa biofuels. We have clean, domestic solutions to the energy affordability crisis President Biden has created, and we need to implement them today. Best, Supporting the NDAA and Ending the Military Vaccine Mandate I proudly supported the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act this week -- this legislation provides our troops with a pay raise, ensures we have the resources to take on China and Russia, and bolsters our national security. It also rescinds the Biden Administration's COVID-19 vaccine mandate that hurt our military readiness and unfairly punished so many of our brave servicemembers. I will continue to ensure our military has the resources necessary to keep our country safe and defend freedom around the globe. Recognizing NASA Commander and Cedar Falls Native Raja Chari It was an honor to meet with NASA SpaceX Crew-3 astronauts following their successful mission to the International Space Station, including Raja Chari from Cedar Falls! I spoke on the House Floor to recognize Commander Chari and thank him for inspiring other young Iowans. He has made Iowa and America proud! Watch Here Salvation Army Fight for Good Award I was honored to receive the Salvation Army’s Fight for Good Award! The Salvation Army does incredible work for our communities in Iowa and across the country -- we’ll continue to work together to help those in need. Hearing from Iowans I enjoyed meeting with Trees Forever Marion this week. They updated me on their work to restore trees we lost during the derecho and other important conservation initiatives in our community.
