Yesterday, I voted to pass the Respect for Marriage Act. This historic bill will protect same-sex and interracial marriage, and recognize it as a fundamental right for all Americans.

Just as the same court that legalized same-sex marriage is poised to overturn it, this bill reaffirms our right to love and marry whomever we please.

I couldn’t be prouder to have joined my colleagues in passing this historic bill. Together, we have sent a resounding message that in America, love will always win.

Now that it heads to President Biden’s desk for his signature, I would also like to extend my gratitude to organizers and advocates across the country who made this a possibility.

I will never stop advocating for fair and equal treatment for all. Though this is a giant leap in the right direction, the fight doesn’t stop here.
