The House passed the Respect for Marriage Act last night, sending the bill that codifies federal recognition of same-sex and interracial marriages to President Biden’s desk for his signature.
We should be celebrating. But instead, I’m thinking about the 205 Republicans who voted no.
169 House members and 36 Senators voted “no” on same-sex and interracial marriage, many of them, like Mitch McConnell, voting against protecting THEIR OWN marriages.
Republicans are not our friends. They’re not congenial colleagues across the aisle we have small policy disagreements with. They’re voting against our fundamental rights left and right — our very humanity.
We need to vote them out. This behavior cannot be tolerated from our nation’s representatives — and if young women have anything to say about it, it won’t be.
