Dear John,
This summer, when the Supreme Court released their decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, they made it clear that marriage equality might also be re-examined. My wife, Cheryl, and I were married when same-sex marriage first became recognized in California. Now, after 14 years of marriage, we won’t go back. This Supreme Court has shown us that they are out of step with the American people. That’s why I’m so proud that this week, the House took action to enshrine marriage equality into law for families like mine.
On Thursday, the House passed the Respect for Marriage Act – which ensures that marriage equality for same-sex and interracial couples is enshrined into law and will be recognized in every state, regardless of who is sitting on the Supreme Court.
Here are some of the other highlights from this week:
Honoring Capitol Police
On January 6th, 2021, police officers defended the Capitol when it was attacked by a mob intent on overturning the 2020 election. This week, we honored the Capitol Police officers with Congressional Gold Medals for their bravery and dedication.
Ensuring Cheaper Fuel Options
E-15 is cheaper and burns cleaner than traditional gasoline – and it’s also a home-grown fuel made with Minnesota corn! That’s why I introduced the bipartisan Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act to make the year-round sale of E-15 permanent.
Securing Funding for Rural Broadband
In the 21st century, we rely on the web for a lot – so it’s critical that every community in Minnesota has reliable access to quality high-speed internet services. I’m happy to announce Minnesota will be receiving $44 million in funding. More here.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
With the year coming to an end, I bid my amazing interns goodbye this week. They have all been instrumental in keeping my office running and working on behalf of Minnesotans. Thanks so much to Isak and Meghan, our Minnesota natives, and Thordis who joined us from Norway!
It was a great week here in DC, and I’m back in Minnesota today working for the Second District. Catch up again next week!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
