john,

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade earlier this year, it became clear that abortion rights weren't the only civil liberties on the line. We’ve seen extremist politicians roll back access to abortion care, And Justice Clarence Thomas made it clear they were ready to overturn marriage equality next.

We couldn't afford to wait for another devastating Supreme Court decision to take action to protect the members of our LGBTQ+ community. That's why I was proud to vote and help pass the Respect for Marriage Act yesterday, which offers protections for same-sex marriages.

john – no matter who you love, you deserve the same rights and protections as everyone else. This legislation is a step forward to ensuring that – regardless of the decisions handed down by the conservative Supreme Court – every person will continue to have the right to marry whomever they love.

While this is a step in the right direction, we still have more work to do to ensure our LGBTQ+ community members are protected and respected. As your congresswoman, I'll always fight to ensure every person is treated equally.

Thank you,

Kim
