The 2022 midterm election is behind us, and I?m now able to continue sending these e-newsletters to keep our community members informed on what?s going on at the Capitol. I'm honored to continue my public service for our neighbors in Rosemount, Apple Valley, and my new portion of Eagan due to redistricting. Check here to see if your representation in St. Paul is changing in January, effective on the 3rd when session begins.
Minnesota?s state budget forecast was released on Tuesday. With a projected budget surplus of $17.6 billion, Minnesotans expect us to do all we can to ensure we?re meeting the needs of workers, families, and students so everyone has the chance to succeed. This is a time for big, bold action that makes life a little easier for folks. We can do this by lowering costs (daycare, healthcare, to name a few) and making strategic investments (in ISD 196?s classrooms, our safety, and local infrastructure) to keep all of us moving forward.
The House and Senate will both release their own versions of a budget blueprint this session after we receive an updated forecast in February, with collaboration and input from Minnesotans and all legislators serving at the Capitol. Governor Walz has publicly stated he?ll have a budget proposal available for review on January 24.
