** 276,000 transgender adults in the U.S. are enrolled in Medicaid
------------------------------------------------------------
An estimated 1.3 million adults in the U.S. identify as transgender and approximately 276,000 of them are enrolled in Medicaid. Twenty-five states and D.C. have chosen to specifically include coverage for gender-affirming care under their Medicaid programs or are in the process of extending coverage, while 14 states exclude coverage for such care and 18 states have not expressly addressed coverage.

** Congress passes the Respect for Marriage Act
------------------------------------------------------------

On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Respect for Marriage Act. This historic legislation overturns the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), marks a high point for bipartisan support for LGBTQ rights, and will provide protections to millions of families.

According to the Census Bureau, there are over 1.2 million cohabitating same-sex couples in the United States and more than 700,000 of them are married. Our research shows that these couples are diverse ([link removed]) , live in every community
([link removed]) throughout our country, and raise hundreds of thousands of children
([link removed]) . And with this new law, all married couples are guaranteed access to over 1,100 federal rights and benefits attached to marriage.
