John,
We have a serious problem.
The Iowa presidential caucus is less than a month away, and right now, because of felony disenfranchisement, 52,000 Iowans are unable to vote!
We know that felony disenfranchisement is an issue nationwide, but Iowa is the worst perpetrator. Iowa is the only state that still bans all people with past felony convictions from voting, unless they appeal directly to the governor.
This is unacceptable. But CLC is in Iowa and we're making real progress! Help us continue this work.
Thankfully, Governor Reynolds has responded to CLC's push for rights restoration by pledging to address the months-long backlog of rights restoration applications before the Iowa caucus next month. We need to ensure Governor Reynolds keeps her promise.
It's clear that our efforts have a tangible and positive impact, and we have no intention of slowing down. We need your support and partnership in 2020.
We were in Iowa last week making our voices heard and calling for changes. There are CLC Restore Your Vote organizers on the ground in Iowa working with people with past felony convictions. We are breaking down the false notion that a felony conviction means you don't and shouldn't have the right to vote. We have done, and continue to do, critical work in areas that need it most, especially ahead of the Iowa caucus next month.
We can do this work because of you! Contribute to CLC today.
Thank you,
Danielle Lang
