| Dear Friend, Trump’s postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, has ramped up his plan to gouge customers and break the post office. DeJoy just announced the USPS's third price hike in one year, increasing prices nearly 20% over what they were in 2021.(1) Meanwhile, DeJoy is shirking Congress’ orders to equip the USPS with electric vehicles, and the mail is slower than ever, with holiday delivery not guaranteed after December 17.(2,3) Right now, the USPS Board of Governors -- which has the ability to fire DeJoy -- is deadlocked, but two seats are opening December 8.(4) President Biden needs to nominate two pro-agency board members immediately so we can get rid of Louis DeJoy once and for all, and we need to raise that call to make that happen. There’s no question that Louis DeJoy’s plan to destroy the USPS is working. This is the busiest season of the year, yet the USPS is facing the rush with 31,000 fewer employees than last year.(5) The USPS has also stopped offering several services in the past year, from prepaid flat-rate envelopes to corporate accounts that streamline shipping for businesses.(6) And although Congress invested billions in the USPS this year, DeJoy is refusing to order the electric vehicles provided for and is continuing to jack up prices, causing people to shift to private shipping.(7) President Biden has shown in the past several months that he is willing to listen to the public about nominations. We have the opportunity to place two public agency advocates on the USPS Board of Governors, and we have the majority necessary to fire Louis DeJoy. Courage California needs to leverage our 1.4 million membership, social media reach, and partnerships to push as many calls as possible to the White House, telling President Biden to act now.
