** LGBTQ+ CONGRESSIONAL STAFF ASSOCIATIONS RELEASE STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF THE RESPECT FOR MARRIAGE ACT
------------------------------------------------------------

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Senate GLASS Caucus ([link removed]) and LGBT Congressional Staff Association ([link removed]) released the following statement on the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act:

“We applaud both the Senate and House for acting to codify federal marriage protections, and express our gratitude to the President for his commitment to swiftly signing this bill into law. The Respect for Marriage Act will finally repeal the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act, ensuring same-sex couples continue to receive federal marriage benefits. It also ensures that same-sex and interracial marriages are recognized across the country. This has been a victory decades in the making and it’s a critical first step toward full federal equality for LGBTQ+ Americans and their families.”
