Dear Members, After reps from CJA member organizations, Urban Tilth, Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC), Greenroots Chelsea, Alternatives for Community and Environment (ACE), Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition (MEJC), Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) and Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), went to Congress last week alongside environmental justice allies to show our unified opposition to Senator Manchin’s dirty permitting deal (as well as CJA member reps in New York and California
contacting their representatives), we received word from legislative aides that the deal had been blocked in the House of Representatives.
As an alliance this was the second time we defeated Senator Manchin’s dirty deal and that is thanks to the power of grassroots organizing and the strength of the Environmental Justice Movement.
Now, Manchin is trying it
again for a THIRD time and wants to pass the dirty deal through the Senate where he will need 60 votes.
Can you call your Senators at 202-224-3121 TODAY (we are trying to create momentum before next week) and tell them to oppose this dirty deal and kill this zombie bill once and for all? Once you make the call, share this action online with others. We can and will stop it again!
Call Script for Democratic Senators:

As your constituent I’m calling to demand that you do all you can to stop Senator Manchin’s dirty “permitting” proposal from being attached to any must pass legislation, including the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act). Protecting our communities and climate is more important and we must ensure a JUST transition away from fossil fuels now and protect communities' rights to be free from harm in the process. Stand with environmental justice communities impacted by fossil fuels and the climate crisis and stop this so-called permitting reform from being attached to must pass legislation, including the NDAA
(National Defense Authorization Act).

Citizens and states should have the right to protect themselves. The bill proposed by Senator Manchin infringes upon our rights to protect ourselves by deliberately stripping us of our ability to speak out against toxic projects built near our front
door. Stand with the workers, farmers, and communities that are impacted by dirty energy projects built on their land, and stop Senator Manchin’s dirty “permitting” proposal from being attached to any must pass legislation, including the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act).
