John,
Today, I proudly voted to pass the Respect for Marriage Act through the House, protecting same-sex and interracial marriage at the federal level.
I have been a proud supporter of LGBTQ rights for decades. I was one of the few who voted for marriage equality in the Pennsylvania House back in the 1990s. This fight is nothing new, and this victory is nothing short of necessary and just.
Attacking marriage equality is bigotry — plain and simple. And this year, the Supreme Court's ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson invites legal challenges to other rights we thought were guaranteed, including contraception, interracial marriage, and same-sex marriage.
I applaud Congress for taking action to protect marriage equality today, and I am urging President Joe Biden to sign this legislation into law without delay. To show your support for this historic bill, please add your name as a citizen co-sponsor of the Respect for Marriage Act. » [link removed]
The fight for marriage equality has been a constant struggle, with attacks on LGBTQ+ freedoms rising. But today’s victory is a significant step in protecting the rights of millions of Americans, and I will fight back against ANY efforts to take our county backward.
