Hi Friend, With less than a month to go before a new Congress begins, Washington has a to-do list brimming with must-pass bills essential for our economy and our nation. Congress must pass the annual National Defense Authorization Act to ensure our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to defend the nation. No matter the political environment, Republicans and Democrats have come together to pass the NDAA every year for the past six decades, and this year can’t be any different. But this year, some extreme members are digging in and suggesting they won’t vote for it. Our government also needs a funding agreement to prevent yet another federal shutdown and keep the lights on in Washington. In recent years, Congress has taken the easy way out, passing short-term government spending bills that only serve to set up another budget fight a few months down the line. This time, Congress should take the proper path: pass a comprehensive spending package, called an omnibus, that will fully fund the government for next year. And Congress must ensure we never have another January 6th by reforming the Electoral Count Act.. No Labels allies Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) have introduced the Electoral Count Reform Act to fix vague language in our election laws that some used to justify the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol. Put simply – there’s no reason not to pass these critical reforms. Each of these bills represents an important win for the country. But as is far too often the case these days, the loudest voices on the left and the right are serving as the partisan police, intent on gumming up the works to fire up their base. No Labels is committed to supporting the doers in the room, the Republican and Democratic members of Congress who put country over party and work together to get big things done. These members, like those in the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus that No Labels created, will play a pivotal role in determining the path ahead during the lame duck session and into the new Congress. But they can’t do it alone. That’s why No Labels is partnering with Convention 2024 to build an alternative to the partisanship in Washington – to create a platform and a movement for the millions of Americans like you who want to see Washington address the needs to the vast exhausted majority in this country. If necessary, Convention 2024 may even be the moment a Unity presidential ticket is announced to challenge the two major-party nominees. If you believe our politics needs more bipartisanship, more cooperation, more putting country over party, and more results for all Americans, please donate to Convention 2024 today. |
