Dear NRDC Action Fund
Activist,
As the world's biggest economy, and for decades the biggest
emitter of carbon pollution, the United States has a
responsibility to help vulnerable countries that are paying the
highest price for the climate crisis — a crisis those countries
done very little to cause.
Last year, President Biden pledged to quadruple the U.S.'s
international climate investments to help reduce the impact of
severe weather and climate-fueled disasters on critical
infrastructure, agricultural productivity, and public health
around the world.
But Congress holds the purse strings — and that means we
need to ensure that President Biden and Congressional leadership
make climate finance a top-priority in their year-end spending
negotiations, while we still have pro-environment majorities in
both houses of Congress. Are you

finance a priority in the year-end spending negotiations to
ensure critical and equitable investments are made to combat the

While the Inflation Reduction Act — the largest climate
action in U.S. history — brings the U.S. closer to domestic
climate goals, the U.S. is playing catch-up on its international
commitments. Global climate progress is being severely undermined
by a lack of climate assistance for vulnerable countries, and
this was on full display recently at COP27.
Climate funding from the U.S. will help reduce the impacts
of extreme weather caused by climate change in countries such as
Barbados and Pakistan. These investments are also in the U.S.'s
best interest — without a rapid global transition to clean
energy, the U.S. economy and communities across the country will
continue to suffer under a volatile and dangerous fossil fuel
economy.
And we must make this happen now — with an incoming split
Congress where the Democrats hold the Senate and the Republicans
the House, we risk this important issue being lost to gridlock
and partisan infighting.
It won't be easy. Big polluters and their vocal minority of
allies in Congress will continue trying every trick in the book
to stall progress on climate change and clean energy — and we
cannot allow them any chance of success.

action and accelerate global climate progress before it's too
