					Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff warned Wednesday of an "epidemic of hate" facing the U.S. during a roundtable he convened at the White House with Jewish leaders and administration officials to discuss rising antisemitism. White supremacist ideas gained significant exposure through online video games this year, particularly among adults, according to a new survey of gamers. With recent high-profile incidents of antisemitism, especially instances of celebrities promoting conspiracy theories and tropes, many in the Jewish community are asking: is this the normalization of the world’s oldest hatred?

					“A first-of-its-kind White House summit on antisemitism highlighted a growing push inside the organized Jewish community for a national strategy to combat antisemitism — alongside long-standing concerns like antisemitism on campus — according to Jewish community leaders who attended the meeting. Senior White House and Biden administration officials, led by the Jewish second gentleman, Doug Emhoff, convened a roundtable Wednesday with leaders from 14 Jewish community groups, where each offered suggestions on strategies, policies and programs for combating antisemitism.” Jewish Insider:

					New Research Finds That White Supremacy is Growing in Gaming Communities

					“Exposure to white supremacist ideologies in online gaming doubled in 2022, a new Anti-Defamation League (ADL) study finds, and three-quarters of all adult gamers experienced severe in-game harassment. (Severe in-game harassment refers to prolonged harassment, doxing, physical threats, and sexual harassment, the ADL notes.) The study, based on a survey of 2,134 people who play online multiplayer games, found that 20% of adults reported exposure to white-supremacist ideologies in 2022, a significant increase from the 8% who reported seeing such content in 2021. The ADL says that 15% of kids ages 10 to 17 reported hearing discussions of white supremacy in online games.”

					Antisemitic Celebrities Stoke Fears of Normalizing Hate

					“A surge of anti-Jewish vitriol, spread by a world-famous rapper, an NBA star and other prominent people, is stoking fears that public figures are normalizing hate and ramping up the risk of violence in a country already experiencing a sharp increase in antisemitism.

					Leaders of the Jewish community in the U.S. and extremism experts have been alarmed to see celebrities with massive followings spew antisemitic tropes in a way that has been taboo for decades. Some said it harkens back to a darker time in America when powerful people routinely spread conspiracy theories about Jews with impunity.” AP: FULL STORY
