An important note from our Assessing team regarding 2019 HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION REIMBURSEMENT CHECKS:
Per Maine law, when "The Property Tax Relief Fund for Maine Residents" reaches a target balance, the State is required to mail checks for tax relief payment to each owner of a qualifying homestead by March 1. This year, homeowners who qualified for the Homestead Exemption for the 2019 tax year will be receiving a check in the amount of $104. **The check will be mailed by the State Treasurer’s office directly to the homeowner.**
According to the State Treasurer’s facebook page, Auburn will be in the first batch of checks to be distributed. Information & updates concerning the checks will be posted at https://ww.facebook.com/MaineOST/.
