John,
URGENT: Congress is trying to sneak through S. 3663, a dangerous censorship bill that will remove tons of legitimate content from the web and force platforms to spy on kids. We’re fighting to stop it. Can you send a letter and help us win?
Take Action
Politicians like to use the end of year turmoil to pass bad laws when we’re distracted. KOSA, or the “Kids Online Safety Act,” is no exception. It’s a totally misguided bill that requires aggressive content filtering—read “censorship”—that would endanger kids’ access to information they need. KOSA won’t keep kids safe, and it lets politicians control what we see online.
KOSA includes a long, vague list of content that platforms could be sued for serving to kids and teens.1 If it's passed, Facebook, Twitter, and all the rest would prefer to strike down helpful content—like educational pieces about dating safety and mental health—than face a lawsuit. And state officials could use KOSA to censor resources for trans and queer youth.
Over 90 civil rights organizations, including the ACLU, GLAAD, and EFF, agree that KOSA is a wolf in sheep’s clothing that would actually make the internet a smaller, more dangerous, and less free place: for everyone, not just kids.2
There’s good news. We hear that our coalition is already turning the tide against this KOSA—and you can make sure we win. Tell Congress: Don’t sneak this bad bill through.
Together,
Evan at ❤️Fight
