Dear John,
As we enter the holidays, I am reflecting on the progress our movement has made this past year and Outright's achievements, which would not have been possible without your generosity. So I write to say thank you.
While I know it's a very busy time of year, I also wanted to make sure you didn't miss my email earlier this week, or the opportunity to help Outright today, for better LGBTIQ lives tomorrow. It's never been more important to bolster the LGBTIQ movement and to advocate for the progress our communities still need to make.
With your generous support, Outright will continue to fight with and for LGBTIQ people everywhere. Outright works with partners around the globe to strengthen the capacity of the LGBTIQ human rights movement, document and amplify the many violations against LGBTIQ people, and advocate for inclusion and equality.
- We all need to listen to LGBTIQ activists on the front lines. From Ukrainian activists helping their communities during the war, to Caribbean activists fighting to overturn colonial-era laws banning same-sex relations, Outright amplifies their voices so they can be heard. Please help Outright amplify the voices of activists.
- In the last year alone, Outright made USD 2.2 million dollars in grants supporting organizations in over 21 countries. We also provided strategic advice, training, networking, and connections to strengthen and grow a powerful global LGBTIQ movement. Help Outright support frontline LGBTIQ organizations around the world.
- With partners, Outright advocated successfully for the renewal of the mandate for the Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity at the United Nations, whose important global mandate is to examine, monitor, advise, and publicly report on matters related to human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Ensure that Outright can continue to advocate vociferously.
- While our work is hard, there is also much to celebrate. Legal wins in St. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, and St. Kitts and Nevis serve as examples of progress. We also celebrate the growth and expansion of our movement, such as in Malawi, where Pride gatherings are just emerging for the first time. Help Outright make sure there is progress to continue to celebrate.
Thank you again for making our work possible in 2022. Together, we know we can accelerate change for LGBTIQ people.
In solidarity,
Maria Sjödin
