Congress must hear from us today!

Dear John,

One year ago, I supported a delegation of West Virginians joining low-income people and families from other states in Washington, D.C. We were there to share personal stories with Congress on how the expanded child tax credit (CTC) and earned income tax credit (EITC) helped meet basic needs. Unfortunately, Congress let the tax credits expire. Now many households have been forced back into significant financial hardship.

It is not too late for Congress to remedy the situation.

Tell Congress: Extend the child tax credit and EITC! [link removed]

The expanded child tax credit cut child poverty nearly in half in 2021, lifting more than 3 million children—including 1 million children under 6—above the poverty line. These payments helped families put food on their tables and afford child care, health care, utilities, and other necessities. Now, we need Congress to restore these vital tax credits.

Whether it’s through a quilt featuring the stories of people who have benefited from the expanded child tax credit or teddy bears to illustrate the millions of children who are suffering because of Congress' inaction, we will continue to tirelessly call on Congress to restore these vital credits. Together we can still deliver true relief for low-income families and significantly slash child poverty.

As Congress considers year-end legislation, they must put the needs of children, families, and low-income individuals in our communities above those of wealthy corporations. Urge them to extend the child tax credit and EITC instead of providing more tax breaks for corporations this year. [link removed]
