The people of Georgia just reminded us that “when we organize, we win”. But as Dan Berger reminds us it is “about remaking the political terrain rather than merely trying to win against a stacked deck. We organize by listening. We organize by relating to one another. We organize by working across lines of difference towards a shared future. And we organize by imagining better. Yes, we should meet people where they are. But don’t wait for them to be ready. “If your community is ‘ready for you’ you are too late.” —@monaeltahawy Instead, we need to have deep conversations about what’s at stake and go to the places that make us uncomfortable. Organizing calls us to get rooted in what matters most and move together from that place. It is an invitation to dream and align our bodies and minds, our communities and our systems around a better future for all. Keep organizing y’all. Kerri (she/her) Art by @workingfamilies
Speaking of elections…SCOTUS is hearing arguments for Moore vs Harper, a case engineered by Republican politicians to undermine free and fair elections by letting state legislatures ignore their own state courts and constitutions. It’s hard to overstate the danger as this case would essentially blow up American Election Law by allowing extremist state legislatures to disregard the popular vote and choose their preferred presidential candidate. The rollback of checks and balances could throw elections into chaos nationwide by nullifying election rules, state constitutions, administrative decisions and court decisions. Here’s a great explainer. LEARN MORE: Moore vs Harper explains your vote at risk. Giving is a practice, not a one time event. It understands that our struggles are connected and, therefore, our practice is to journey alongside one another in the fight for freedom and justice. So all December we are going to be supporting the efforts of Vision Change Win, a Black-led,QTBIPO organization supporting grassroots movement strategy, safety & security, conflict resolution, and org transformation in achieving their fundraising goal of 20,000 by the end of the year so that they can keep doing the work of community safety programming and provide rapid response and scholarships and innovate new programs, curricula, and projects. This is the energy we need going into 2023. Let’s root for each other. CTZNWELL is community powered and crowd-sourced. That’s how we keep it real.
