I recently heard from a long-time donor who explained our enduring impact: “We were journalist refugees from Iran forty years ago and your support enabled us to get asylum. We are always grateful.”
 
Your donation to PEN America affects real change. With the support and participation of people like you, here are just a few examples of what we accomplished in 2022. We were able to:  

• Keep a precise count of every book banned in American schools and sound the alarm on how bans primarily target the LGBTQ+ community and people of color.
• Grant emergency funds to oppressed writers around the globe facing acute financial need.
• Train journalists to combat disinformation and online harassment, using our pioneering Field Manual. 
• Research and document Russia’s savage attacks on Ukrainian culture as a weapon of war.
