Commissioner's Column

As I write my final Commissioner’s column, I realise how much I have learnt from the sector over the past four months, a sector that employs just over 10% of the Australian workforce.

It has become increasingly apparent to me as I listen to discussions with boards, charities and advisers that at the heart of everything charities do, is purpose, also referred to as mission.

[[link removed]] Answering your questions

A few of the most common questions we have been hearing from charities recently...

Q. What do I need to know about Director Identification Numbers?

A. You will need a director identification number if you’re a director of a company (or registered body) with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

This is a number given by the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS), and not managed by the ACNC.

The due date for applying for your Director ID was 30 November, which has now passed. If you haven't applied already, you should do so before 14 December 2022.

For more information, please visit the ABRS website, abrs.gov.au [[link removed]].

Q. Do we have to report on key management personnel remuneration (e.g., CEO) in the 2022 Annual Information Statement (AIS)?

A. Yes, however this only applies to some charities.

Medium charities providing a general purpose financial statement along with the AIS, and large charities, must provide this information.

Usually, Basic Religious Charities don’t need to provide this as financial information is voluntary, but if they do provide financials then the above rules apply.

You can read more about reporting key management personnel remuneration at our website [[link removed]].
