John  – I wanted to send you a quick update on what happened
here in North Carolina.

As I told y’all earlier in the week, some in the county will still be
without power until later today, if not tomorrow. A new development in the
case, however, was reported earlier today.

As CNN reports: “Nearly two dozen shell casings from a high-powered rifle
have been recovered from the sites where gunfire disabled two North
Carolina electric substations last weekend and left much of a county
without electricity service for days, according to law enforcement
sources. While investigators haven’t found a rifle, the casings still
could offer critical evidence.”

Now, who would risk throwing around 40,000 people off of their power to
make a statement? Who would see to it that people would go without food,
hot water, the basic necessities – just to make a point? A terrorist. That
is who would do this.

While officials have yet to determine a cause, the effect is very clear to
see. Someone deliberately shot and damaged the substations to take out the
power and put the entire county at risk. I would imagine someone this
depraved never even considered elderly people in their homes or hospitals
having to operate from generators just to keep people alive….they just
attacked the infrastructure and moved on about their night with the
desired outcome.

And heed this as a cautionary tale: this was potentially ONE person with
ONE weapon attacking infrastructure and upending the lives of
thousands…what happens when it’s a group targeting an entire state or
several states? Investment in our infrastructure is absolutely critical –
and it is clear that we have no time to waste.

I’ll keep you all updated as more details come out. In the meantime, we've
