John,
Thanks to young voters, the future is now.
In three straight elections―including in two straight Georgia runoff elections―young voters have turned out in record numbers to elect Democrats and fight back against attacks on our rights, from abortion rights to voting rights and more.
As one New York Times contributor wrote, “If the elections had been decided by voters 45 and older, Republicans would have won the House by an even greater margin and likely taken the Senate.”1
But the organizing of young voters didn’t happen overnight. It’s taken a multi-year, year-round organizing strategy to train young people to become active leaders in our communities.
Next month, we will launch our 2023 Mama Lila Cabbil Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship―to train young people in and around Detroit, ages 14 - 24 on the skills to be effective organizers on a range of issues impacting our communities.
Organizing year-round requires a year-round investment.
Pitch in $5 to my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC today to help us fully fund our 2023 youth fellowship program to train the next generation of leaders in the battleground state of Michigan.
Youth fellowship participants will have 32 hours of instruction and 32 hours of field work, plus they’ll receive a $1,000 stipend. Past participants have had an average age of just 18 years old with 93% identifying as BIPOC and 79% identifying as female.
This younger generation is the most diverse of any generation in U.S. history. Younger voters are concerned about the climate crisis, workers’ rights, college affordability, LGBTQ+ rights, immigrant rights, abortion rights, and racial and social justice. In order to continue to win elections and advance our shared agenda, we must continue to invest in youth leadership.
Pitch in to my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC today to fully fund the 2023 Mama Lila Cabbil Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship and invest in the leaders of tomorrow, today.
