The fossil fuel industry just tried to sneak a provision into the defense spending bill to make it easier to build pipelines, mines, and other dirty fossil fuel projects — but our movement spoke out, and we stopped the measure from moving forward.

This is a huge victory — but Big Oil won't back down. And conservative Democrats like Senator Joe Manchin won't stop trying to do their bidding — because advancing the interests of his corporate and Republican donors is more important to him than protecting our communities and our environment.

Meanwhile, I will always put people and our planet first. We need more progressive voices in Congress to fight back against the fossil fuel industry and its enablers — not less.

That’s why it’s so important we strengthen and grow our progressive coalition to stop Republicans and conservative Democrats from undermining our progress to address climate change.

The fossil fuel industry won’t go down without a fight — they spend millions on top of millions each year to influence lawmakers.
