Today MomsRising is holding a National Day of Action on the Child Tax Credit (CTC) to put pressure on Congress to extend the expanded CTC by the end of the year and we need your help.

It’s also an emergency. The clock is ticking on an end-of-the-year tax package in Congress and today we are making our voices loud and clear: Congress must prioritize our families and extend the expanded CTC now! Last year the expanded CTC reduced child poverty by almost half! We can not lose this historic progress!

MomsRising is up on Capitol Hill as you read this with North Carolina mom, Eshawney, and New Hampshire mom, Amber, talking to key decision makers about the importance of the Child Tax Credit. But we need your help to back them up. We want to make sure the phones ring off the hook and that your Senators hear how important the CTC is to our children, families, and economy.

Tell your Senators that they must extend the expanded Child Tax Credit in any end-of-the-year tax package!” After that, you’ll be connected directly to your Senator’s office.

All you need to say is: “Hello!  Please extend the expanded Child Tax Credit in any end-of-year tax packages. Thank you! Good bye.” And then you can get back to your regular day. 

Here’s why your call is so important: Negotiations are expected to start this week for an end-of-the-year tax package. This is a huge opportunity for us to create real change for our families and once again win a much needed expansion of the Child Tax Credit. As you may remember as part of the American Rescue Plan last year, we were able to secure monthly Child Tax Credit checks sent to 40 million U.S. families. [1] Those checks are responsible for reducing child poverty by half last year—so we know this is a policy that works! [2]

Today is our opportunity to demand that Congress take care of the unfinished business of providing an expansion of the Child Tax Credit for our families by calling your Senators! A bipartisan tax package would require 60 votes in the U.S. Senate, meaning that at least 10 Republicans would need to support it without any Democratic defections. But we are so very close to having the numbers to pass this policy—more and more Republicans are starting to see just how important the Child Tax Credit is to our families. We just need to keep pushing them so it’s a top priority for the end-of-the-year!
