2022 was unforgettable

Families shattered after mass shootings in Buffalo, Uvalde and Highland Park within weeks of each other....state laws challenged after the SCOTUS ruling on the New York Bruen case....gun violence continued to disrupt our vulnerable communities....the CDC tallied 2021 gun-related deaths at nearly 49,000, an all time high in America...and a 10 year remembrance for Sandy Hook lives.

But we don't give up. Your support has enabled us to provide a digital database to our 32 affiliates advocating for good gun laws and defending against bad ones. Digital outreach campaigns continue to be a necessary tool to reach thousands of supporters effectively and efficiently across the country. Oregon Measure 114 passes.

Oregonians voted on November 8th to pass Measure 114. It includes a permit to buy a gun after completing a firearms safety course; a ban on the sale or transfer of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition; and a state police requirement to complete full background check on buyers with permits before any gun sale or transfer.

Rhode Island responds to Uvalde.

In response to the massacre in Uvalde, Texas, the Rhode Island House legislature passed 3 new gun safety bills after hours of heated debate between lawmakers.  They include raise the age to purchase from 18 to 21 years; ban open carry of firearms in public; and ban high-capacity magazines over 10-rounds.

Nebraska defeats bad gun bills.

Nebraska successfully defeated bills that would eliminate safety training and background checks for conceal carry firearms. Measures like this are often called “constitutional carry” in reference to the opposition’s erroneous belief and misinterpretation of the U.S. Constitution that it allows individuals the right to carry concealed guns without a permit.

A Call to Action from 32 States.

To capture the groundswell of bipartisan support for responsible gun ownership, SUPGV launched a public service campaign calling on voters to write to their Senators in support of responsible gun ownership. The campaign ran as legislators geared up for another vote on gun safety and in the lead up to the June 11 March For Our Lives events across the country. President Biden signed the Safer Communities Act to law on June 25, 2022.

Wishing all a peaceful & safe holiday season.

We are grateful for your support!
