Dear Friend of CURE Epilepsy,
My name is Jack Somers, and I’m a United States Marine Corps Veteran. I was commissioned in 2007 as a Second Lieutenant and then served for six years. While on leave from Afghanistan in 2010, I had my first seizure at the finish line of my local Turkey Trot, but I didn’t know what it was at the time.

Until this year, nobody used the word “epilepsy” when referring to my diagnosis, and nobody connected my seizures to a combat-related event in Afghanistan. I now know that I have post-traumatic epilepsy ([link removed]) , stemming from a grenade blast encounter with my platoon 12 years ago. I now have a diagnosis, a treatment plan, and a team of people helping me with treatment… but I don’t have a cure. That's why your gift to CURE Epilepsy today is so important. ([link removed])
My generation of warriors has so many risk factors for developing epilepsy – from exposure, to burn pit fumes, to combat-related actions that lead to traumatic brain injuries like mine. Breakthroughs in CURE Epilepsy funded research are identifying how to stop epilepsy before it starts in soldiers like me, and your gift today is critical to continuing this momentum. Please join me in making a gift to CURE Epilepsy today. ([link removed])

With gratitude and best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season,
Captain Jack Somers
